Pattern Review: Styla Galena
Overall Rating: 5/5
Difficulty: 1
This pattern is a dream for the novice sewist! It only requires a few pattern pieces to cut out and sew. The most difficult part is probably attaching the neckline, but the pattern gives very clear instructions with step by step pictures.
Fit: 4
I cut out a size 14, which is the size recommended for my bust measurement. I am glad I did not size up one size for my waist measurement, as I like my dresses fitted and this ended up perfect. If you like your dresses a bit looser, I am sure this pattern fits true to size.
Cost to Make: 1
This is another amazing free pattern from Styla. It takes less fabric than many other dresses, since the bodice isn't lined and the skirt isn't gathered. This pattern also does not require any extra notions, just around 2 1/2 yards of fabric and thread. My total dress cost around $6! (I love a fabric bargain!)
Features: 4
The Galena features a faux button placket option, as well as three sleeve options. A short puff sleeve, short sleeve with band, and a bishop sleeve. The pattern also includes a shirt option for a fun peplum look! You can make this pattern dozens of ways without ever feeling like you are wearing the same thing.
Pros/Cons:
PRO | CON |
It's FREE! It is very quick to put together Has so many options to reuse | Nothing, this dress is perfect. |
Changes:
I almost always need to make a sloped shoulder adjustment, so I did that with this pattern. The fabric I had was just screaming for flutter sleeves, but I was too excited to make my first Galena so I added the flutter sleeves from the Laurel. The two patterns combined beautifully.
