Pattern Review: B6859 Raglan Knit Top
Overall Rating: 4
Difficulty:2
This pattern is fairly simple, but it does require gathering and curved seams, which can be a little beyond a new beginner! I cut and sewed this whole shirt in an afternoon. The directions are simple and clear. The pattern has 5 pieces to cut and includes a neckband pattern instead of just the measurement.
Fit: 3
I graded the pattern to fit looser in the hips and I love the way this shirt fits. The sleeves fit at exactly the right length and the gathering at the raglan is very flattering.
Cost to Make: 2
As always, I snagged this pattern at Joann's $1.99 sale. It requires about 1 1/2- 2 yards of fabric. I was able to find the softest knits pre-cut at Walmart. This pattern requires no extra notions, so it can be very affordable.
Features: 4
The pattern itself also includes elastic waist joggers (which I can't wait to try!) and an elastic waist skirt. The shirt has two hemline options, curved or banded, and two different sleeve options, short or long sleeve with cuffs.
Changes:
I cut out a Large for the top and sleeves, but graded up to an XL in the hips starting at the waistline. I wanted a relaxed fit and the alteration ended up being perfect. I also made the sleeves out of a contrasting fabric from the body of the shirt.
